Vehicle Rescue and Extrication Practice Test

NFPA 1521 establishes the fire department incident safety program and the role of the incident safety officer. It sets who can supervise safety at an incident, what training and qualifications are required, and how hazards and risks are identified, evaluated, and mitigated during emergencies. The goal is to create and enforce a scene safety plan that protects responders from evolving dangers as the incident unfolds. The other standards focus on different areas—technical rescue qualifications, rescue operation requirements, or apparatus signaling—and do not define the overall incident safety framework. Because of that, NFPA 1521 is the standard that addresses incident safety management at incidents.
